Easter Sunday with family made easy
Easter marks the middle of spring, and there’s no better way to enjoy the season than by bringing all the family together for an Easter Sunday lunch. With spring in the air, you can add a touch of freshness and colour to your table, and have some fun with a few Easter-themed games – here are our top tips.
For a cheerful springtime table, opt for bright place settings and rustic table accessories – mint greens, sherbet yellows and pastel pinks are great for Easter, and this will complement your sparkling glassware.
Creating (or simply buying) your own rattan or wicker ‘birds’ nest’ baskets to hold toothpicks, cutlery or condiments is a great way to bring the season to your table, while freshly cut flowers and grasses make for a charming centrepiece.
CHOOSING THE MENU
Although the traditional Easter lunch is a delicious white fish, that doesn’t mean you can’t get a little creative with the recipe and presentation. Seabass is wonderful, and cooking it whole in the French style “en papillote” is a great way to deliver stunning flavour and unique presentation.
This involves cooking your herbed and seasoned fish wrapped in a brown paper bag (or foil) in the oven. Serving your fish with seasonal greens like asparagus, artichokes and fresh baby carrots is a great way to tie the theme into your menu.
Of course, younger family members may not be quite so impressed by whole seabass – so if you’re catering for little ones, you could always substitute the seabass for fish finger sandwiches in crusty bread with cos lettuce.
FUN AND GAMES
To keep children happily occupied post-lunch (or even while you’re busy on the food prep in the kitchen) set up an egg decoration workshop on a side table.
This doesn’t need much fuss or expense: just hard boil some eggs, present them in simple white egg cups and leave the kids’ imaginations to run wild with colourful pens and simple craft materials.
Decorated eggs are traditionally rolled down a grassy hill (though a slight garden incline will do), with the owner of the egg that rolls the furthest winning a chocolatey prize.
Plus, there’s no need to worry about getting ink or craft materials on your egg cups, with Finish Quantum helping you to get rid of tough stains.
